It is estimated by the year 2010, 1 in every 250 young adults will be a survivor of childhood cancer (Keene, Hobbie & Ruccione, 2000). Survivors, and their families, continue to confront issues that are related to their experience long after the medical treatment has ended. In order to provide a resource for the growing population of survivors and their families, we have developed a web site called Outlook. Outlook is an interactive web based information system designed to address the needs of survivors of childhood cancer and their families.
The focus of Outlook is to address the needs of survivors of childhood cancer and their families. By providing information we hope to give survivors and their families the tools to help them become their own advocate. Aspects of Outlook, however, can be valuable to almost anyone. Within the personal stories section one can witness strength, resiliency and love for life. Patients who are currently undergoing treatment can also find support in Outlook by seeing the faces of survivors who represent the light at the end of the tunnel.
