Patti's Experience
In January of 1983 I met my husband, Bob and we were married in June, 1984. I had at this point been going to UW hospital and clinic about once a year for my checkups. Since I had heard there was a possibility of not being able to have children I decided to ask point blank at the next appointment. I didn't want to be disappointed when we decided to have kids. The answer I received was heartbreaking. I was told that because of the type of chemotherapy used and the type of cancer I had it was unlikely.
Back home I found a wonderful O.B.Gyn who started some infertility testing. We didn't get very far with the tests because within that month I was pregnant! I did miscarry that baby, but for me, now I knew that I could get pregnant. Within a couple of months I was pregnant again with Shelby, my miracle girl. Shelby was born July 16, 1986. Miracle #2 arrived December 20, 1989 as a baby boy, Matthew.
I showed the doctors the 1st time by surviving the cancer then, again, by having my kids that miracles really do happen!
