Aimee

" A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Aimee. I am 27 years old. I am a Database Manager and Researcher. Some of my hobbies and interests... reading, learning, walking and creating - stories, collages, tapestries, databases, cookies, messes, well just about anything.

Information about my illness...

In 1973, when I was 1 years old, I was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. I was treated at Cornell Eye Hospital and Yale. I had radiation and surgery.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Find peace with who you are and how your cancer has shaped you. It may have been years since you have had to deal with your cancer but it still affects you. This is not a negative thing but a life shaper. Be proud of who you are and what you have overcome.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... I have learned that what others have viewed as a limitation for me does not have to be. So what I can't see out of one eye but I can see out of the other. As my mom is often known to quote A one eyed man is king amongst the blind.

A positive outcome from my experience is... I am blessed to be able to see all of the beauty the world has to offer.

" Smile, it makes people wonder what you are up to."
