Brittany

" There is a hero inside of you."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Brittany. I am 12 years old. I am a sixth grader. Some of my hobbies and interests... drawing and doll collecting.

Information about my illness...

In 1993, when I was 4 years old, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. I was treated at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, Kansas. I had radiation and chemotherapy.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Bring tapes, puzzles and toys to the hospital to keep your mind off of what is happening. Painting in the playroom helped me.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... I can handle things that hurt and things I didn't think I could do. God helped me and my little brother prayed for me.

A positive outcome from my experience is... I got to meet new friends and I got some nice things. We went to Disney World with Make a Wish when I got better.

" I go to Camp Hope for kids with cancer every summer. I swim and meet lots of new friends. We stay all week if we are eight years old or more. We stay in cabins with people who take care of us. There is a boys cabin and girls cabin and sometimes we play tricks on eachother! Camp Hope is fun."
