Carol

" I have been won the battle of cancer several times but still have not won the war. Only the strong survive and I am a tough old broad! "

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Carol. I am 44 years old. I am Administration Assistant. Some of my hobbies and interests... Watching football, reading.

Information about my illness...

In 1967, when I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma. I was treated at Rochester Minnesota. I had radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... GET CHECKED! If anything seems adnormal physically, go to the doctor immediately! Early detection is imparative!

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... After all I have been through, people think I am couragous. I am not. I am trying to live as normal of a life as I can. I also learned that people can be insensitive and mean, but there are some people out there that have a heart of gold.

A positive outcome from my experience is... HEY! In the 60's the survival rate for my cancer was 15 percent. Here I am at 44 years old! I was told I would not live, but like every other time someone tries to tell me what to do, I do the opposite!

" My right leg was amputated when I was 13. The cancer matasticized 3 times, one per yr for 3 yrs. Twenty yrs later I am dianosed with breast cancer and have a mastectomy. I thought I had it beat, but now I have learned that it will never really be gone. I will have to learn how to manage my cancer for the rest of my life."
