" We can only love God as much as the one we love the least. -- Dorothy Day"

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Lisa. I am 36 years old. I am the Community Relations Coordinator for a group of physicians. Some of my hobbies and interests... computers, reading, spiritual & physical fitness, Bible Study Fellowhip, art therapy, Contemporary Christian Music, collecting antique religious books, surfing the Web, photography, family church camp at Blue Lake, Labrador Retrievers, seeing old friends, sharing my personal relationship with Christ, veggie melt sandwiches, snow skiing, Atlanta Braves, Michael Jordan, playing with my two boys, biking, renovating our new-old house.

Information about my illness...

In 1983, when I was 19 years old, I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. I was treated at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center and Providence Hospital (Mobile, AL). I had radiation and chemotherapy.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Christ is the source of all hope. As survivors, we can be a reflection of His love. Each one of us is terminal, but He is the Savior who will usher us into a life of eternity with Him.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... that I am not self-sufficient. I have to depend on God for his mercy, grace, love and peace. I have both strengths and weaknesses. My strengths allow me to do for others. My weaknesses allow me to let others do for me.

A positive outcome from my experience is... learning to have compassion for others and a passion for helping others; becoming a liason between patients and their physicians, providing them with information that allows them to make informed decisions in their treatment and recovery.
