Sara

" For everything there is a season. A time to be born and a time to die. A time for planting and a time for pulling up. A time for killing and a time for healing... He sets the time for sorrow and the time for joy. -Ecclesiastes 3:1-9."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Sara. I am 21 years old. I am supervisor for starbucks. Some of my hobbies and interests... Animal rights, gymnastics, angels, and spreading hope to other cancer patients.

Information about my illness...

In 1997, when I was 18 years old, I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. I was treated at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. I had radiation and chemotherapy.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... *Always stay true to yourself. Don't let what others say influence how you feel. *Stay informed. No matter how young you are, it is easier to deal with tests, treatments, etc. if you know what you are facing. *It's okay to be afraid, cry, scream, whatever. *NEVER GIVE UP OR LOSE HOPE! MIRACLES DO HAPPEN, AND NOTHING IS EVER HOPELESS !

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... *I am a strong person and will be able to greet whatever life sends my way with a positive perspective. *That nothing is impossible, and hope is our best treatment. I am still alive, and that proves to me that there is more to cancer than statistics and defeat.

A positive outcome from my experience is... I have truly opened my eyes to the world, and have begun to do the things that I only dreamed of doing before I got sick. I have been sky-diving, traveling, and sailing on the open sea! These are the memories that I will always have.

" When I was diagnosed with MM, my family and I were told that I would probably live less than a year, that there was no cure for my cancer. Two years later, I am not only alive, but ALIVE! I had so many prayers for me and so much hope...I truly believe this is the most important treatment you will have."
