" No matter how bad you think your life is, remember there is someone in a worse situation than yourself. So don't feel sorry for yourself, try to help others in need."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Shelly. I am 27 years old. I am Student/Medical Secretary. Some of my hobbies and interests... Reading,Internet, Wood projects.

Information about my illness...

In 1985, when I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma. I was treated at Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York, N.Y. I had chemotherapy.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Keep fighting, you can beat the battle. Talk when you need to talk, cry when you need to cry, and laugh, laugh, laugh.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... How important each and every individual is, no matter what there faults may be.

A positive outcome from my experience is... It has made me a better person, I do not judge people and I take their feelings into consideration.

" It was New Year's Eve of 1986 when I was diagnosed. After many surgeries over many years my left leg was amputated in 1991, due to my choice. I now leave a peaceful life and go on. My parent always said and still say I am special, and I am strong, and couragous, but I say no just stubborn. To stubborn to give up and I hope you don't give up also! Good Luck!"
