Valerie

" Whatever doesn't kill you, cancer or otherwise, can only make you stronger."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Valerie. I am 18 years old. I am a student at Auburn University. Some of my hobbies and interests... I am a counselor at Camp Smile-A-Mile, Alabama's camp for children with cancer.

Information about my illness...

In 1981, when I was 9 years old, I was diagnosed with Liver Cancer. I was treated at Children's Hospital of Alabama. I had chemotherapy.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Ask questions about your treatment. It is after all your health that is at issue. Also, never give up in the fight. When hope is all you have, hope will get you through.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... There are countless things I have learned from my experience. But most of all I have learned that faith in God and prayer is the key to any circumstance, no matter how bleak.

A positive outcome from my experience is... A positive outcome from my experience is how strong it has made me. After surviving cancer, I know that I can make it through anything. I also feel that I am more able to sympathize more with people who are going through hard tiems.

" What Cancer Cannot Do Cancer is so limited- It cannot cripple love. It cannot shelter hope. It cannot corrode faith. It cannot destroy peace. It cannot kill frienship. It cannot suppress memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade the soul. It cannot steal eternal life. It cannot conquer the spirit. Mrs. Jimme Stutts . "
