Vicki

" My personal favorite motto is Life is too short to be tall . But, I guess the one I most live by is never give up."

A little about me...

Hi! My name is Vicki. I am 35 years old. I am a public relations professional with a bachelors degree in journalism. Some of my hobbies and interests... following college baseball, reading, listening to music, genealogy.

Information about my illness...

In 1975, when I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. I was treated at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO. I had radiation, chemotherapy and surgery.

My words to others...

My suggestions to other survivors are... Celebrate the present, don't dwell on the past. Also, always make sure your doctors know your past medical history so they can watch for any late appearing side effects.

The most important lesson I learned from my experience is... I guess the most important lesson I learned was that I can handle the most difficult situations. When I complain about a problem at work, or have a bad hair day or any other problem, I remember when surviving was my problem and I didn't have any hair to have a bad hair day with.

A positive outcome from my experience is... My family and I are very close, probably closer than we would be if I hadn't gotten sick. And, most importantly,...I AM A SURVIVOR!!!!!!

" There are times when I get depressed about the side effects of my treatment that I am dealing with now, almost 25 years later. But then my husband reminds me that those treatments saved my life. I guess that's the most important thing. I have a life that I love, a great husband, friends, etc. When I was 11 I was given 3 months to live, I guess I just haven't gotten to those three months yet!"
