"Simple Pleasures-Socks and Smiles"

Cindy

From the first day I was diagnosed with Osteogenic Sarcoma at the age of 12, I knew there would be many dark and scary days ahead of me. I knew not what the future held for me or why this had to happen to me at all.

I learned to take one day at a time and never give up fighting for even the smallest of achievements. Just figuring out a new way of doing something by myself that I used to take for granted, like putting on my own socks, was the best feeling.

Now at the age of 29, married with two children of my own, I still fight everyday for achievements and I think back to all those days in and out of the hospital and all of the special people who cared for me and my family. They are the ones who taught me how important just a simple smile, laugh, or hug means to a person. So even on the darkest of days, never forget to look for or give someone that smile or hug; it speaks a thousand words!!
