"Marching On"

Sarah

Two weeks before I was diagnosed with cancer I was getting ready for the State qualifications for track and field events. I was a high jumper and a sprinter and I was excited to be able to demonstrate my talents to everyone that year.

My original thoughts when I was diagnosed with cancer were that my hopes and dreams were shattered and my talents were gone. In reality, having cancer gave me the chance to realize new goals, new talents, and new dreams.

This is my fourth year in the University of Wisconsin Marching Band and it is the love of my life. Being a member of the band is the most prideful part of my life and the most wonderful college experience. I live it, I love it.

I encourage anyone who is diagnosed with something that alters their life to look to the future and not dwell on what they don't have, but what they can have and can achieve if they just put their mind to it.
